Taliban Kill Four Soldiers in Afghanistan

Four Afghan soldiers were killed in an attack on the convoy of an Afghan provincial governor, who survived without injury, Saturday (23/1/2010).

The convoy of Fidae Halim Mohammad, the governor of Wardak province, not far from Kabul, was attacked by a bomb in the road on Friday morning. "The bomb hit a military vehicle in Afghanistan that is part of the procession, killing four soldiers and wounding another," said provincial spokesman told AFP Shahid Shahidullah.

Vehicles carrying the governor walked behind a military vehicle overturned due to the impact of the explosion.

The guerrillas opened fire on the convoy after the explosion but no additional casualties. Two guerrillas were arrested after the incident, said Shahid.

A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed responsibility for the attack and said they killed eight soldiers.

The guerrillas regularly attack the Wardak province on the main highway south of Afghanistan.
